Mosquitoes…

Even just hearing the word mosquitoes can sometimes make your skin crawl. Being bitten by them or even knowing they’re likely near by can be enough to ruin an afternoon barbecue or evening on the porch in rocking chairs. They’re so frustratingly irritating and we don’t like them either. That’s why we’ve decided to share our top 5 tips for eradicating and/or repelling those pesky mosquitoes! Contact Iron Mantis Pest Control  with any further questions!

1. Eliminate Standing Water

Mosquitoes lay their eggs in stagnate water, which also hatch under the water. If you have planting pots, tires, or divots in your yard where water can stay for long periods of time, do your best to eliminate the potential for standing water.

2. Outdoor Mosquito Traps

Mosquito traps can attract the nearby mosquitoes, and Lowes actually sells a fairly good one at a reasonable price, click here for the link. Make sure you follow the cleaning directions periodically. If you need a more heavy duty mosquito trap, give us a call for pricing 480-779-8696.

3. Little Known Remedies

Lavender and rosemary plants (and oils), and even dish soap can repel mosquitoes. If you have lavender oil, put a few drops on your skin before you go outside. You can also rub a dryer sheet on your clothes and keep it in your back pocket just in case a really gutsy mosquito tries to take a dive at you. Wearing long sleeves, long pants, and shoes (not sandals) is recommended. Also, if you don’t mind sprays on your skin, try this deet-free insect repellent.

4. Trapping

This homemade mosquito trap has shown success and is well worth the effort if you like to leave your doors or windows open to enjoy the fall breeze. You can also buy one (non-toxic) that has a replaceable glue pad inside, and doesn’t make zapping noises.

5. Avoid Peak Mosquito Hours

This homemade mosquito trap has shown success and is well worth the effort if you like to leave your doors or windows open to enjoy the fall breeze. You can also buy one (non-toxic) that has a replaceable glue pad inside, and doesn’t make zapping noises.
